There was a period of several months where I didn’t listen to Girl Talk’s “Feed The Animals” while sober.  It was the lazy man’s party, and a good one at that.  It was a skillful blend of samples and genres that did its job without sounding clumsy or cluttered.
That’s why I completely understand when it takes two years between releases.  His newest tape, All Day, was just released for free here.  It was downloaded so heavily at launch that he had to apologize for breaking the internet.
Break out the Ketel One and cranberry juice.

Triangle Offense - TGIF

The video, like the song itself, was done completely in-house by the three Jersey City gentlemen.  Like a Gap commercial, the white background makes fashion the focus, which is meant to reinforce the message of the song that the individual defines what “fresh” is.

We Are Trees - Sunrise Sunset

I caught this Virginia Beach based band by chance at Bowery Electric during CMJ week.  They’ve been compared to Grizzly Bear more than once; I would agree.  I would also add a touch of Arcade Fire to the comparison thanks to the very clean, very high production value.  Even though they tag themselves as lo-fi, it clearly isn’t.

I’m a sucker for the heavy drums and catchy melody, but I’m afraid they may be a one-trick-pony.

More info and a link to purchase their four song EP ‘Boyfriend’ on their bandcamp.
